Georgia State Patrol Investigating Fatal Twiggs County Pedestrian Accident Involving Truck on Georgia 96

Pedestrian Accident

TWIGGS COUNTY, GEORGIA (February 16, 2025)A woman from Jeffersonsville has tragically died in a Twiggs County truck accident on Georgia 96 by E. Main Street.

Twiggs County officials are saying that the collision took place around 6:50 PM on Tuesday. A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck as she was walking in the roadway.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the injured woman. Despite life-saving measures, she later died due to her injuries.

She was later identified as Andrea Anderson. A full investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Twiggs County Truck Accidents

All drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with other vehicles and pedestrians in the roadway. According to GA Code § 40-6-180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard for the actual and potential hazards then existing.” There are many errors that drivers may have made prior to hitting a pedestrian.

  • A driver may have failed to scan the road ahead of them.
  • A driver may have been traveling too fast for the prevailing road conditions.
  • A driver may have been distracted by their cell phone or other objects.
  • A driver may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian in the roadway, they could be held at fault for the accident through a civil claim. Liability for any pedestrian accident could extend beyond an individual driver deemed to be at fault. For example, the company that a driver was working for could also be legally responsible. Many pickup trucks are used for commercial purposes.

Steps to Take After Twiggs County Pedestrian Accidents

Far too many pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in preventable car accidents across Georgia and the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “Pedestrian fatalities as a percent of all traffic fatalities increased steadily from 2005 through 2018, from 11.2% to 17.3%, respectively. The percentage of pedestrian deaths has now increased for three consecutive years, accounting for 17.9% in 2023.” Certain action should be taken after any pedestrian accident in Georgia.

  • The police should be called to the accident site as early as possible so that they can begin a formal investigation.
  • Lots of photos of the accident site should be taken.
  • Medical records related to any injuries should be collected.
  • The family of any person who died should contact an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

Pedestrian collisions are often highly preventable. They tend to involve predictable safety lapses. This includes situations where drivers are traveling too fast or failing to pay attention to the road ahead of them. Unfortunately, drivers and their insurance providers will virtually never accept responsibility when they injure or kill a pedestrian. This is why thorough investigations of these incidents are essential.
