Truck Driver Killed In Candler County Truck Accident on I-16

COBB COUNTY, GEORGIA (April 22, 2025) – Two people have tragically died in a Papa John’s semi-truck accident along Interstate 75 in Cobb County.

Cobb County officials are saying that the accident took place around 8:34 a.m. on Friday. A 2023 Freightliner Cascadia truck was driving down the freeway when it was involved in a collision with a pickup truck.

The force of the accident caused the truck to roll onto its side and collide with the sound barrier wall on the shoulder of the interstate. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victims.

Sadly, two people were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Georgia State Police are asking anyone that may have witnessed the collision to reach out to them.

Liability for Cobb County Semi-Truck Accidents

All drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with other vehicles in the roadway. According to GA Code § 40-6-180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard for the actual and potential hazards then existing.” There are a number of other factors that could contribute to any truck accident.

  • A number of collisions involve drivers that are following the lead vehicle too closely.
  • Car accidents are more likely during the early morning hours when visibility is reduced.
  • A large portion of collisions involve drivers that are fatigued.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Depending on the specific facts of any case, liability for collision could involve several different parties. This includes the company that owned any commercial truck. It can also include the municipality responsible for roadway barriers along the interstate if those barriers were defective in some way.

Steps to Take After Georgia Semi-Truck Accidents

Car accidents remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the IIHS, “There were 40,901 deaths from motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2023. This corresponds to 12.2 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.26 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.” Several measures should be taken after any truck accident in Georgia.

  • The police should be called to the scene of the accident so that they can begin investigating.
  • The circumstances leading up to the collision should be determined.
  • Photos of the accident site should be taken.
  • Any person who may have witnessed the crash should be interviewed as early as possible.
  • The family of any person who died should seek an independent review by a team experienced in negligence claims.

Truck accidents are often highly complex. The factors that contribute to any truck accident could take place many days or even months beforehand. In particular, trucks have very high utilization rates. They are therefore much more likely to experience vehicle system failures if they’re not properly maintained. The family of any person who died in a semi-truck accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil action.
