Truck Driver Killed In Candler County Truck Accident on I-16

BLECKLEY COUNTY, GEORGIA (February 4, 2026) – One person tragically died, and several others were injured in a Bleckley County semi-truck accident on Interstate 18.

Bleckley County officials are saying that the collision took place on Friday morning. Three semi trucks were traveling down the roadway when they were all involved in a collision with a pickup truck.

Authorities believe that the crash was caused by one Kenworth tractor-trailer truck that was traveling too closely to the others. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help all the victims.

Sadly, one person died due to their injuries, and several people were taken to the hospital. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Liability for Bleckley County Semi-Truck Accidents

Truck drivers must obtain a commercial license and are expected to operate their vehicles with a great deal of safety. According to GA Code § 40-6-49, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway.” Truck companies should take several measures to prevent accidents.

  • Training: Truck companies should ensure that all of their drivers are well trained.
  • Maintenance: Truck companies should perform periodic inspections and maintenance on all of their vehicles.
  • Compliance: Truck companies should ensure that all of their drivers are compliant with hours-of-service requirements. Drivers must take periodic rest breaks and limit the number of hours that they work in a given day and week.
  • Technology: Truck companies should consider installing certain technological features on their vehicle. This includes forward collision avoidance systems that can automatically brake a truck to help prevent a crash.

If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that collides with the rear of a vehicle in their own lane of traffic. These types of accidents nearly always involve some element of negligence. In far too many cases, truck drivers are pushed to complete routes as quickly as possible and begin to adopt unsafe driving habits.

Steps to Take After Bleckley County Semi-Truck Accidents

Truck accidents account for a relatively small portion of the total vehicles on the roadway, but they’re involved in a high number of serious injury collisions each year. According to the National Safety Council, “Also in 2023, 114,552 large trucks were involved in crashes resulting in an injury, a 4.7% decrease from 2022. Since 2016, the number of trucks involved in injury crashes has increased 12%, while the involvement rate per 100 million large truck miles driven has remained the same at 35.” Certain steps should be taken after any Bleckley County semi-truck accident.

  • Police: The police should be called to the accident site as early as possible so that they can begin an initial investigation. The police report they create can be used in a variety of different circumstances.
  • Medical Records: All of the medical records related to injuries should be collected and preserved. These can play an important role in revealing how a crash took place and establishing the extent of a person’s injuries.
  • Accident Reconstruction: In certain cases, accident reconstruction will be performed following any major crash. The report created by the accident reconstruction team should be closely examined.
  • Legal Review: Any person involved in a truck accident should seek the guidance of a truck accident attorney. An attorney can examine the unique facts of any case and help determine what parties could be liable.

It can be difficult to know where to begin after any truck accident in Georgia. These incidents routinely leave victims with life-altering injuries. To make matters worse, truck companies will virtually never accept responsibility if one of their drivers causes a collision. This is why it’s so important that these incidents are investigated by an outside party. The family of any person who died due to the negligent actions of a truck driver may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
