Semi-Truck Crossed Into Opposing Lanes of Traffic in Hart County Near the Intersection of Royston Highway and Seed Cleaner Road
HART COUNTY, GEORGIA (March 4, 2025) – Several people were injured in a Hart County semi-truck accident near the intersection of Royston Highway and Seed Cleaner Road.
Hart County officials are saying that the collision took place around 5:45 AM on Sunday. A pickup truck was traveling west on Royston Highway and struck a semi-truck that was traveling east.
The driver of that semi-truck lost control of his vehicle and crossed into opposing lanes of traffic before colliding with a second semi-truck. That truck ended up overturning onto the driver’s side.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help all of the victims. The driver of the pickup truck and a passenger in the first semi-truck were both transported to the hospital in order to receive treatment.
A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.
Liability for Georgia Semi-Truck Accidents
Semi-trucks and other large commercial vehicles are involved in many serious injury and fatal collisions every year. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, “In 2021, 5,904 large trucks and buses were involved in fatal crashes, a 18-percent increase from 2020. From 2020 to 2021, large truck and bus fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled by all motor vehicles increased from 0.176 to 0.191, 7 percent below the 21st-century peak of 0.205 in 2000.” Truck companies should take a number of measures in order to prevent collisions.
- Truck companies should ensure that all of their vehicles are routinely inspected and well-maintained.
- Truck companies should only utilize drivers with the required commercial license.
- Truck companies should ensure that their drivers are abiding by all federal regulations for work hours.
Semi-truck drivers are required to get a commercial driver’s license and are held to a high standard in terms of safety. They must exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. Even if a semi-truck driver is involved in a collision, they must follow safety protocols in order to avoid losing control of their vehicle following an initial crash. When a semi-truck driver fails to slow down in order to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim.
Liability for any semi-truck could extend beyond a truck driver. The carrier that a truck driver worked for could also potentially bear some amount of legal responsibility. Generally speaking, companies are liable for the wrongful actions of their employees – insofar as those employees were working within the course and scope of their job duties. However, carriers will often hire their drivers as independent contractors in order to avoid being held vicariously liable for collisions. It is important that the circumstances surrounding any truck accident are properly understood.
- Photos of the accident site should be taken.
- Surveillance footage should be reviewed.
- The police report of the accident should be collected.
- The truck driver’s logbook should be checked for violations.
- An experienced truck accident attorney should be contacted.
Truck accidents are usually highly preventable. They tend to involve situations where one or more drivers are committing some traffic infraction. In particular, drivers are much more likely to lose control at higher speeds. These collisions can leave victims with very serious injuries and jeopardize both their health and financial security. Accident victims should understand that they do have legal rights. They are able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
