MARIETTA, GEORGIA (September 16, 2026) – A teenager has tragically died in a Marietta tractor-trailer truck accident on Cobb Parkway near Allgood Road.

Cobb County officials are saying that the accident occurred shortly after 2 PM on Friday, September 4. The teen was riding an e-scooter when he was hit by a semi-truck making a right turn onto Allgood Road.

He was subsequently run over by the tires of the truck and critically injured in the process. Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the victim.

He was transported to a local area hospital to receive treatment. Unfortunately, he was beyond medical assistance and later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

A full investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Georgia Semi-Truck Accidents

Truck drivers are expected to obtain a commercial license and exercise due care to avoid collisions with cyclists and other pedestrians. Georgia law requires that drivers do not turn or move from a direct course unless they can make this movement with reasonable safety as outlined under O.C.G.A. § 40-6-123. When a driver turns into the path of another vehicle or cyclist, this could serve as evidence of negligence. There are a number of factors that may contribute to any Georgia truck accident.

  • Blind Spots: Commercial trucks have enormous blind spots that can easily obscure the presence of cyclists and even larger vehicles.
  • Turning Radius: Trucks have a large turning radius and are much more susceptible to side-impact collisions.
  • Fatigued: truck drivers are often asked to complete the routes as quickly as possible and may naturally become fatigued.
  • Turns: Turns are among the most dangerous maneuvers that truck drivers can make. Left turns are particularly dangerous and should be avoided as much as possible.

Depending on the unique facts of any case, there could be several sources of liability for any accident involving a commercial truck. For example, the company that a truck driver worked for could be legally responsible. Under Georgia law, employers can be vicariously liable for the negligent actions of their workers when operating within the course and scope of their job duties. A carrier could also be liable if they worked with a truck company that had a history of accidents or safety violations.

What To Do After A Georgia Truck Accident

A fully loaded truck can weigh 80,000 pounds. These vehicles can be incredibly dangerous even at lower speeds. According to one report from the IIHS, there were 5340 fatalities involving large trucks in 2024 alone. Roughly 20% of those deaths involved pedestrians and bicyclists. There are a number of actions that should be taken after any semi-truck accident in Georgia.

  • The police should be called to the scene as early as possible so that they can begin investigating.
  • The event data recorder on the truck involved should be captured and its data should be downloaded.
  • Any surveillance footage that may have captured the collision should be preserved.
  • Witnesses to the crash should be interviewed as early as possible.
  • The family of any person killed in a truck accident should request an independent investigation by a team experienced in accident reconstruction and negligence claims.

Truck accidents are often highly preventable. This is particularly true when pedestrians or scooter riders are hit. These types of collisions often involve drivers that are simply not paying enough attention to the road ahead of them. Unfortunately, truck drivers are not likely to admit fault if they cause a serious injury collision. The family of any person killed due to the negligent actions of a truck driver may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
