STONECREST, GEORGIA (January 28, 2026) – A female pedestrian has tragically died in a Stonecrest car accident near the intersection of Turner Hills Road and Mall Parkway.

The Cobb County officials are saying the accident took place around 9:30 AM on Tuesday. A woman was walking near the northbound lane of traffic when she was struck by a pickup truck.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. The driver also remained at the scene of the crash and was not injured.

Despite life-saving measures, the victim died following the collision. A full investigation into the Stonecrest collision remains ongoing.

Liability for Stonecrest Pedestrian Accidents

All drivers and Georgia must exercise due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. Pursuant to GA Code § 40-6-180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard for the actual and potential hazards then existing.” There are several ways that a driver may have acted negligently to avoid colliding with pedestrians.

  • Blind Spot: Drivers must check their blind spots before making turns at intersections.
  • Horn: Drivers should use their horns when necessary to alert pedestrians of their presence.
  • Scanning: Drivers must consistently scan the road ahead of them for pedestrians and other hazards. They should be particularly cautious at night and during times of reduced visibility.
  • Distraction: A driver may have been looking at their phone and failed to notice a pedestrian ahead of them.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is also possible that liability for a collision could extend beyond any driver deemed to be at fault. Pickup trucks are routinely used for commercial purposes. If a pickup truck was being used to advance a commercial purpose, the company that owned the truck could be vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of the negligent driver.

Steps to Take After Stonecrest Pedestrian Accidents

Far too many people are killed or seriously injured every year in pedestrian accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “in 2023, most pedestrian traffic deaths occurred in urban settings (83%), on the open road (76%) versus intersections (24%), and during dark conditions with or without artificial lighting (74%). The largest number of pedestrian deaths occurs on Fridays (1,155), closely followed by Saturdays (1,150).” It is important that certain actions are taken after any pedestrian accident in Georgia.

  • The police report for the collision should be sought and carefully reviewed.
  • Medical records related to injuries should be preserved.
  • Any person who may have witnessed the accident should be interviewed.
  • The family of any person who died should seek the guidance of an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

Pedestrian collisions are often preventable. In most cases, they involve some amount of driver error. Part of the problem is that pedestrian infrastructure has not continued to improve even as counties across Georgia have continued to grow. The family of any person who died in a pedestrian accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
