Bus Driver Arrested After Several Students Hospitalized From Barrow County School Bus Crash on Georgia 211 Near Raymond Drive

BARROW COUNTY, GEORGIA (August 17, 2026) – At least six students were injured in a Barrow County school bus accident along Georgia 211 by Raymond Drive.

Barrow County officials are saying that the incident occurred on Wednesday morning. The school bus was heading down the road when it overturned into a ditch.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help all of the victims. A total of six students were hospitalized in the crash.

Remaining students were taken to school or left with their parents. The school bus driver involved in the collision is currently facing charges related to the incident.

Liability for Barrow County School Bus Accidents

Under Georgia law, all drivers have a legal obligation to use reasonable care to avoid collisions with other vehicles. School bus drivers are considered common carriers and are expected to operate with an abundance of caution to avoid collisions. Among other things, they must maintain their vehicle safely within a single lane of traffic. According to GA Code § 40-6-48, “A vehicle shall be driven as nearly as practicable entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from such lane until the driver has first ascertained that such movement can be made with safety.” Investigators will examine many different factors when evaluating liability for school bus collisions.

• Driver Conduct: The actions of the driver leading up to the collision are important. It matters whether or not they may have been distracted, fatigued, or otherwise compliant with traffic regulations.
