BLOOMINGDALE, GEORGIA (July 16, 2026) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a Bloomingdale dump truck accident at the intersection of Jimmy Deloach Parkway and an unnamed dirt road.

Georgia State Patrol is saying that the collision occurred around 8:41 AM on July 10. The dump truck was attempting to make a left turn from the dirt road onto GA-17 when it was involved in a collision with a motorcyclist.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the victim. The motorcyclist was transported to a hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries.

Investigators believe that the dump truck driver failed to yield the right of way to the motorcyclist prior to the crash. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Bloomingdale Dump Truck Accidents

Dump truck drivers are expected to obtain a commercial license and must operate with an abundance of caution to avoid collisions. This requires that they abide by all traffic regulations, particularly when making turns on the roadway. According to GA Code § 40-6-71, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Dump truck drivers should take multiple actions to avoid collisions with motorcyclists.

  • Dump truck drivers should only use commercial GPS systems. This will help them avoid roadways that they are not supposed to be on.
  • Dump truck drivers should thoroughly check all of their blind spots before making any turn.
  • Dump truck drivers should do their absolute best to avoid left turns whenever possible. Left turns are among the most dangerous maneuvers drivers can make.
  • Dump truck drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them for potential hazards.

If a dump truck driver makes a left turn into the path of a motorcyclist or other vehicle, they could be held at fault for the collision through a civil claim. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver who turns into the path of another vehicle. Motorcycles and other vehicles cannot make an abrupt stop if a vehicle enters into their path of travel. This is why it is so important that dump truck drivers check to make sure that the roadway is clear before initiating any left turn. The employer that a dump truck driver worked for could also be responsible for the collision. Under Georgia law, employers will normally be held vicariously liable for the conduct of their workers who were operating within the course of their job.

Common Injuries Associated With Dump Truck Accidents

Dump trucks can weigh tens of thousands of pounds and pose unique safety issues for pedestrians and motorcyclists. Many of the victims of these accidents are actually workers. According to the National Institute for Occupation Safety and Health, “Injuries from dump trucks led to the deaths of 809 construction and extraction workers from 2011 to 2020.” There are a number of common injuries associated with dump truck accidents.

  • Victims of dump truck accidents are vulnerable to crush injuries, especially if they are pulled under the vehicle.
  • Broken bones are another major concern for pedestrians and motorcyclists.
  • Not all of the injuries associated with a dump truck crash are immediately obvious. Many victims have reported sustaining traumatic organ damage.
  • One of the most dangerous types of injuries that a person could sustain in a dump truck crash is a head injury. A traumatic brain injury results in numerous physical and cognitive impairments that follow a person for the rest of their life.

Even after a person has healed physically from a dump truck crash, they may be left with long-term psychological injuries. These injuries can manifest as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. It is important for victims of dump truck accidents to understand that they do have legal options. They are able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim. Damages in a personal injury claim should cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
