Truck Accident Case Settlement - Trucking Company Failed to Properly Maintain Truck

BRYAN COUNTY, GEORGIA (October 5, 2026) – Four people have died and three people have been seriously injured in a Bryan County tow truck accident on Interstate 16.

Bryan County officials are saying that the collision occurred around 2:10 PM on Wednesday near mile marker 143. A Ford F-250 was reportedly involved in a collision with a Kenworth tow truck by a construction site.

The force of that impact pushed one of the vehicles into a Mack tow truck. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help all of the victims.

Three people in the Ford F-250 were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A juvenile in the back of the pickup truck was taken to Memorial Hospital in Savannah with critical injuries.

A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.

Liability for Bryan County Tow Truck Accidents

Georgia law requires all drivers to maintain a safe speed and following distance from all of the vehicles ahead of them. Pursuant to GA Code § 40-6-49, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway.” Drivers may need to travel well below the stated speed limit during periods of poor visibility or heavy traffic. Courts will examine several factors when determining liability for any crash.

  • They will consider the following distance of all vehicles involved.
  • They will take into consideration whether or not any driver may have been distracted.
  • They will review the condition of the vehicles involved in the crash. Some accidents are the result of vehicle system failures.
  • They will also review police reports and witness statements to help get a fuller picture of what happened.

When any driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle ahead of them, this could be construed as negligence. Depending on the unique circumstances of any collision, there could be several liable parties. This is particularly true if any vehicle was being used for commercial purposes at the time of a crash. A construction company could also face liability if they created an active hazard for drivers. All of these possibilities should be on the table during any investigation into a major crash.

What to Do After Georgia Construction Zone Accidents

Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death for people across Georgia and the United States. Many of these collisions occur in work zones. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2024, 850 people were killed and 42,094 people were injured in work zone crashes. Work zone crashes are defined as taking place within the boundaries of a work zone or on an approach to or exit from a work zone due to activities, behaviors, or controls related to traffic moving through the boundaries of a work zone.” Multiple actions should be taken after any truck accident in Georgia.

  • Victims should seek a thorough medical evaluation as early as possible. Many of the injuries associated with a major collision are not going to be immediately obvious.
  • Lots of photos of the accident site should be taken. Even a photo can reveal a great deal about what may have led up to a crash.
  • The history of accidents at the crash location should be studied. When there is a history of collisions at any particular location, this could reveal underlying safety defects that should be investigated.
  • The family of any person who died in a Georgia truck accident should carefully consider their options with a team experienced in accident reconstruction and negligence claims.

Truck accidents are often highly preventable. In many cases, they involve drivers that are not abiding by all safety regulations. Part of the problem is that many truck drivers are pushed to complete their delivery routes as quickly as possible. This can lead to the adoption of unsafe driving habits that jeopardize the well-being of everyone on the roadway. The victims of truck accidents are protected by a number of laws. They are able to hold all liable parties accountable through a wrongful death claim.
