Eight People Injured in Chatham County Truck Accident on I-95
Multi-Vehicle Collision Involving Pickup Truck and Tractor-Trailer Resulted in Eight People Being Injured

CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA (October 13, 2026) – Eight people were injured in a three-vehicle collision involving a tractor-trailer truck on Interstate 95 southbound near mile marker 110.
Georgia State Patrol is saying that the accident occurred around 6:44 AM on Friday. A Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was reportedly broken down along the median shoulder of the interstate due to some type of malfunction.
That driver reportedly was able to repair his vehicle before attempting to re-enter the roadway. However, the pickup truck malfunctioned once more before shutting off and losing all power.
The Toyota Tacoma was subsequently hit by a Chevrolet Tahoe. A tractor-trailer truck was subsequently involved in that previous collision shortly after.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help all of the victims. In total, eight people were injured, including two juveniles.
A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.
Liability for Chatham County Truck Accidents
Every person operating a motor vehicle in the state of Georgia has a legal obligation to pay attention to the road ahead of them and use caution to avoid hitting other vehicles. Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 40-6-123, “No person shall stop or suddenly decrease the speed of a vehicle without first giving an appropriate signal in the manner provided in this Code section to the driver of any vehicle immediately to the rear when there is an opportunity to give such signal.” There are many steps that truck drivers should take to avoid collisions.
- Rest Breaks: Truck drivers should take periodic rest breaks to ensure that they do not become dangerously fatigued.
- Safe Speed: Truck drivers should continuously operate their vehicle at a safe speed at all times.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Truck drivers should ensure that their vehicle is routinely inspected and well maintained.
- Road Scanning: Truck drivers must continuously scan the road ahead of them for potential hazards, including stalled vehicles.
If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any vehicle ahead of them, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Even if a vehicle is stalled in the middle of the roadway, this does not relieve a driver of their duty of care to use caution and avoid hitting that vehicle. Liability for any accident involving a commercial truck could extend to several parties. This includes the company responsible for employing any truck driver involved in a crash. Under Georgia law, employers can be vicariously liable for the negligent conduct of their workers who are operating within the course and scope of their job duties.
Preserving Evidence After Truck Accidents
Thousands of people are seriously injured or killed every year in preventable truck accidents across Georgia and the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2024, 5,218 large trucks were involved in a fatal crash, a 3% decrease from 2023 but a 30% increase in the last 10 years. The involvement rate per 100 million large-truck miles traveled is also down 3% from 2023, but up 9% in the last 10 years.” It is important that several pieces of evidence should be preserved after any truck accident.
- Police Report: The police report created after the crash is an important piece of evidence that can tell a lot about what took place.
- Accident Photos: Photos of the accident site can also reveal a great deal. For example, a lack of skid marks in a roadway can indicate a driver did not even attempt to brake.
- Dash Cameras: Most commercial trucks also have dash cameras and event data recorders that can corroborate other pieces of evidence to reveal what took place.
- Medical Records: Medical records that indicate how a person was injured are also extremely important and another tool to help reveal what actually happened.
The vast majority of truck accidents are actually preventable. They tend to involve situations where truck drivers are not properly scanning the road ahead of them. Part of the problem is that many of these truck drivers are pushed to complete delivery routes as quickly as possible. This can lead to situations where they become dangerously fatigued. Any person injured due to the negligence of a truck driver may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
