Bruce Bartenfelder Killed in Newton County Semi-Truck Accident

Bruce Bartenfelder, 83, from Florida, Died in Collision With Tractor-Trailer Truck on Interstate 20 Eastbound Near Exit 101

NEWTON COUNTY, GEORGIA (July 30, 2026) – An 83-year-old man identified as Bruce Bartenfelder has tragically died in a Newton County semi-truck accident along Interstate 20.

Newton County officials are saying that the incident occurred around 4:15 AM on Thursday morning. Bruce Bartenfelder was traveling with his wife when they experienced some sort of mechanical problem with the boat they were transporting.

He pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway and exited the vehicle before being struck by a tractor-trailer. EMS were called to the scene of the collision to help the injured victim.

Sadly, Bruce Bartenfelder was beyond medical assistance and pronounced deceased at the scene. A full investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time.

According to O.C.G.A. § 40-6-93, “Notwithstanding other provisions of this chapter, every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian upon any roadway, shall give warning by sounding his horn when necessary, and shall exercise proper precautions upon observing any child or any obviously confused, incapacitated, or intoxicated person.” There are many different ways that a truck driver may have acted negligently prior to hitting a pedestrian.
