Georgia Workers Killed After Amazon Vehicle Hit Their Parked Truck on Interstate 95
RICHMOND COUNTY, GEORGIA (September 23, 2026) – Two workers were tragically killed in an accident involving an Amazon truck on the side of the Interstate 95 freeway in Richmond County.
Richmond County officials are saying that the collision occurred on Monday morning. The Amazon truck reportedly drifted onto the right shoulder of the freeway before colliding with a work truck.
The force of the impact pushed the stationary truck across all lanes of traffic before sending it over a guardrail. Two workers were also reportedly struck in the collision.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help both of the victims. Unfortunately, both were beyond medical aid and later pronounced dead.
A full investigation into the Richmond County accident remains ongoing at this time.
Georgia requires that all drivers use caution to avoid accidents with other vehicles. Under Georgia Code § 40-6-48, drivers are required to remain as nearly as practical within a single lane of traffic and not deviate from that lane unless such a movement can be made with relative safety. Truck drivers are required to obtain a commercial license and are held to an even higher standard than people driving passenger vehicles. There are many ways that a truck driver may have acted negligently prior to a collision.
There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that leaves the roadway and collides with a pedestrian alongside that roadway. Depending on the unique facts of any case, there could be several liable parties for any accident involving a commercial vehicle. Consider, for example, Scott v. Evans Delivery Company, Inc., Georgia Court of Appeals (2026). That case involved a tractor-trailer that struck a disabled vehicle, resulting in the death of one person. Attorneys for the plaintiff argued that the disabled tractor-trailer driver was partly responsible for allowing their vehicle to protrude into an active travel lane.
Roadside workplaces remain very dangerous and pose a number of unique safety hazards to workers. According to one estimate by the Federal Highway Association, there were 850 people killed in work zone crashes across the United States in 2024 alone. Roughly 31% of these crashes involved large trucks or buses. Several steps should be taken after any truck accident in the state of Georgia.
Truck accidents tend to be highly preventable. They are often the consequence of drivers that are not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them. Employers can take a number of actions to prevent these types of collisions. This includes ensuring the truck drivers are given adequate rest breaks. Barriers can also be created around work zones to protect pedestrians from errant drivers. The family members of any person who died in a truck accident are able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil action.
