BARTOW COUNTY, GEORGIA (February 27, 2026) – A pedestrian has tragically died in a Bartow County semi-truck accident on Interstate 75 and Mile Marker 290.

Georgia State Patrol are saying that the pedestrian was crossing the interstate when they were struck by a tractor-trailer truck in the middle lanes. Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the injured victim.

Sadly, they were beyond medical aid and pronounced dead due to their injuries. The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Bartow County Semi-Truck Accidents

Truck drivers must continuously scan the road ahead of them for potential hazards and operate with due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian. According to GA Code § 40-6-180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard for the actual and potential hazards then existing.” There are many different ways that a truck driver may have acted negligently before hitting a pedestrian.

  • Speed: A truck driver may have been traveling too fast for the prevailing conditions. Even traveling the speed limit could be dangerous in certain situations.
  • Work Hours: A truck driver may have failed to abide by hours of service requirements. Truck drivers are only allowed to operate so many hours in a given day and week.
  • Distraction: A truck driver may have been paying attention to their phone or other device before hitting a pedestrian.

When assessing whether or not a truck driver acted negligently, the small details matter. In particular, it matters whether or not a reasonable person would’ve acted the same way in their situation. If a truck driver failed to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway, this could serve as evidence of negligence. The employer that the truck driver worked for could also be held at fault. Generally speaking, employers are vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their workers who are operating within the course and scope of their job duties.

Steps to Take After Bartow Truck Accidents

Many pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in car accidents. An increasing number of these collisions involve larger vehicles. According to National Public Radio, “Vehicles with higher front ends and blunt profiles are 45% more likely to cause fatalities in crashes with pedestrians than smaller cars and trucks, according to new research published Tuesday by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.” Certain actions should be taken after any truck accident.

  • Victims should seek a thorough medical evaluation.
  • All of the medical records related to the accident should be preserved.
  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed while their memories are still fresh.
  • The work records for the truck driver involved should be scrutinized.
  • The family of any pedestrian who died should seek an independent investigation into the crash.

Driving a commercial truck is substantially more difficult than operating a passenger vehicle. Truck drivers should receive extensive training on how their specific vehicle operates. One of the major driving factors behind truck accidents is rule violations. Truck companies may push drivers to complete their routes as quickly as possible. This can lead to workers adopting unsafe driving habits. The family of any person who died in a truck accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
