Investigation Underway After Pedestrian Died in Lamar County Truck Accident on Highway 341
LAMAR COUNTY, GEORGIA (June 20, 2026) – A pedestrian was seriously injured in a Lamar County car accident along Highway 341 near Academy Drive.
Lamar County officials are saying the accident took place at around 3:00 PM on Monday. A pedestrian was crossing the roadway when they were struck by the passenger-side mirror of a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. He was airlifted to Atrium Health Navicent in Macon to receive treatment.
A full investigation of the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time.
Every driver in Georgia has a legal obligation to use caution to avoid colliding with pedestrians in the roadway. This necessitates that they maintain a safe speed at all times. According to GA Code § 40-6-180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard for the actual and potential hazards then existing.” There are many ways that a driver may have acted negligently before hitting a pedestrian.
If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian on the roadway, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Even if a pedestrian is outside of a marked crosswalk, this does not relieve a driver of their responsibility to use caution to avoid any collision. If a pickup truck was involved in a crash, liability may extend beyond any specific driver determined to be at fault. Pickup trucks are routinely used for commercial purposes, including landscaping and construction.
Pedestrians lack the protections afforded by enclosed vehicles. The increase in the number of large trucks and SUVs has coincided with a sharp increase in serious pedestrian accidents. According to National Public Radio, “Vehicles with higher front ends and blunt profiles are 45% more likely to cause fatalities in crashes with pedestrians than smaller cars and trucks, according to new research published Tuesday by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.” Multiple actions should be taken after any pedestrian accident.
Pedestrian accidents tend to be highly preventable. In many cases, drivers are simply not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them. Unfortunately, insurance companies want to do everything that they can to avoid responsibility if their driver hits a pedestrian outside of a marked crosswalk. This is why it is so important that these incidents are properly investigated by an outside party.
